Project details:

  • Country: Hungary
  • Crops: Grapes
  • Irrigation Type: SDI (Sub-surface drip irrigation)
  • Size (ha): 18

What was the challenge?

A vineyard in Hungary, covering 18.5 hectares, struggled with low yields and poor grape quality. The soil was sandy, making water retention difficult. The farm also faced a unique problem: starlings damaging the vineyard.

What solution did we provide?

We designed and installed a subsurface drip irrigation (SDI) system using  - PoliFlat T-500 PCAS dripline (20 mm / 35 mil / 1.0 l/h / 0.5 m spacing). By placing the dripline below the soil surface, the system is protected from bird damage while delivering precise water directly to the root zone.

What are the results?

Consistent and reliable water supply in sandy soil

Improved grape yield and fruit quality

Long-term protection of irrigation laterals from birds

More efficient use of water compared to surface irrigation

Why is SDI ideal for vineyards?

Subsurface drip irrigation ensures that vineyards receive the exact amount of water they need without losses caused by evaporation, runoff, or external damage. For growers facing soil challenges or bird-related risks, SDI offers a sustainable and reliable solution.

We offer complete irrigation systems from source to the crops, including design, know-how, and support every step of the way.
