This vineyard in Hungary had 18.5 hectares of sandy soil. Sandy soil does not hold water. The result was weak yields and poor-quality grapes. The problem was made worse by starlings, which damaged the vineyard and the irrigation lines.
We applied a tested method: subsurface drip irrigation.
The system used PoliFlat T-500 PCAS dripline (20 mm / 35 mil / 1.0 l/h / 0.5 m spacing). The dripline was placed below the soil surface. This single change made all the difference.
Water reached the roots directly, not the surface.
The buried line was safe from birds.
Evaporation losses were stopped.
Each drop of water was measured and controlled.
The vineyard achieved better grape yields, higher fruit quality, and lasting protection of its irrigation investment. The system now provides a steady and efficient water supply in soil that was once a barrier to success.
Subsurface drip irrigation is not theory. It is proven in vineyards like this one. Growers with sandy soils or bird damage can secure better harvests the same way—by moving the water underground, where it belongs.
